The Neighborhood Institute and Neighborhood Summit are two of the strongest ways to learn, connect, and lead in community. One builds practical neighborhood leadership skills over time; the other brings people together to share ideas, strengthen relationships, and learn from what is working across the city.

Practical leadership training for people who want to make a difference where they live.
Neighborhood Institute is CFN’s flagship leadership education program and often the first step in a resident’s leadership journey. Established in 1987, it was created to help neighbors build the practical skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to lead effective neighborhood organizations, work across differences, and turn local concerns into action. tt has graduated more than 1,000 leaders from across Metro Louisville and beyond.
Participants learn how neighborhoods function, how local decisions are made, how to navigate civic and government systems, and how to organize people and ideas around shared priorities. The program emphasizes leadership development, collaboration, consensus-building, resource acquisition, civic engagement, influencing boards and public decisions and project implementation so residents leave better prepared to move neighborhood ideas forward.
NEIGHBORHOOD SUMMIT
The Neighborhood Summit is a citywide gathering built around shared learning, connection, and community problem-solving. It creates space for residents, partners, and practitioners to exchange ideas, highlight what is working, and build momentum for stronger neighborhoods.
WHY IT MATTERS
